The Elm trees need to be removed and replaced in our beautiful Botanic Gardens. We will be working closely with the community over the next 18 months, as the replacement of trees takes place.
March 30 2022 Albury Botanic Gardens Elm AvenueMayoral Statement “We too are disappointed that the Elm trees need to be removed and replaced in our beautiful Botanic Gardens. This is not a snap decision, with independent Arborist reports dating back to 1990 recommending the removal of the trees, as they have a terminal health condition and have reached the end of their life. Our team have been working hard to maintain the trees over this time, and we have been growing replacement Ginkgo trees for eight years that will be over five metres tall when replanted. Ginkgo trees are a more suitable species for our climate, and less susceptible to disease. The new avenue will also contain one of the longest floral perennial borders in Australia. A more spectacular avenue of trees will be created and without doubt, be the pride of our community. We will be working closely with the community over the next 18 months, as the replacement of trees takes place, and encourage everyone to share their thoughts on the Botanic Gardens Master Plan when it opens for your feedback on Council’s website this coming Monday.” Kylie King - AlburyCity Mayor |
