Albury-Canberra flights to cease due to lack of demand

AlburyCity has today announced that the FlyPelican Albury-Canberra service will discontinue effective January 1, 2024.

15 Dec 2023

The service was operated on a trial basis to better understand market demand and to continue to enhance connectivity between our two vibrant cities.

“Despite the combined efforts of AlburyCity, Canberra Airport and FlyPelican to promote and provide a convenient service over the past 4 months, passenger demand has been less than anticipated and is insufficient to sustain an ongoing service,” said AlburyCity Service Leader Business and Lifestyle, Ambrose Glass.

“While the outcome of the trial is disappointing, FlyPelican and AlburyCity Council remain committed to enhancing air travel connectivity for regional Australia.

“On a positive note, our analysis of passenger movements from the trial has shown a potential market for connectivity between Albury and Newcastle, which may be explored in the future as part of the AlburyCity Airport Aviation Strategy, which is due for review in 2024.

“We appreciate the ongoing support of our community and look forward to continuing to connect communities in new and meaningful ways through using Albury Airport.”

FlyPelican is offering affected passengers a full refund or a flight credit on an alternate route based on passenger preference.
