Community invited to help shape Albury’s Oddies Creek Splash Park

Albury families are one step closer to having a new destination to cool off in summer, with Council this week endorsing the draft concept design for the Oddies Creek Splash Park.

The draft will now be placed on public exhibition for 28 days, giving the community a chance to have their say before construction begins.

Oddies Creek Park, already a hub for families with its popular regional play space attracting more than 200,000 visitors each year, will soon be even more exciting. The new splash park will bring water play to life with six unique zones, from calm nature-play streams to interactive water showers, geysers and cannons.

“Albury residents have been asking for a splash park for years, and we’re pleased to be another step closer to making it happen,” said Albury Mayor Kevin Mack. “This will be a place for kids to laugh, explore and cool down, and for families to spend quality time together in a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment.”

The design draws inspiration from the Murray River, with riverine themes, sculptural shade, and seating areas for parents, carers and other family members.

The park will celebrate our community’s connection to water, nature and the Murray and will also include:

  • A fully fenced, consolidated play area linking the existing playground with the new splash park
  • Accessible features for people of all abilities
  • Retained and enhanced off-leash dog areas, with new shelter and green spaces
  • Convenient parking and access through the new proposed Australia Park Car Park project

The project has secured $2.5 million in Australian Government funding, under the Albury Wodonga Regional Projects (AWRP) program, with the project’s balance, of up to $2.5 million, to be covered by AlburyCity.

The splash park concept attracted strong community input, with more than 1,200 submissions received and 94.6% of participants in the earlier Have Your Say survey supporting the project. Local Dyiraamalang Girbang First Nations culture and stories have also been incorporated into the design, making the park a celebration of place as well as play.

Council invites the community to review the draft concept and share feedback during the public exhibition period.

“The draft design has been carefully developed to fit within the project budget, and while we welcome community feedback, any changes must remain within the approved funding,” Mayor Mack added.

Feedback will be reviewed and finalised prior to the detailed design phase.
