Council adopts long-term plan for community facilities and open space

AlburyCity Councillors have voted to adopt the Albury Social Infrastructure Strategy 2025, setting a clear framework to guide the planning, delivery and management of community facilities and open space into the future.

28 Aug 2025

The Strategy provides an evidence-based approach to ensure facilities are delivered in the right place, at the right time, to meet the needs of the community. It’s underpinned by four key principles – Co-located, Connected, Multifunctional and Equitable – which will guide decisions about future investment.

Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said the Strategy reflects both Council’s long-term vision and the community’s priorities.

“This Strategy is about ensuring our community facilities and open spaces keep pace with Albury’s growing and changing population. In the Thurgoona-Wirlinga growth corridor, demand for community assets is already strong and will only increase. A clear strategy allows us to prioritise and deliver facilities where they are needed most,” Mayor Mack said.

Following a public exhibition period, a number of minor refinements have been made to the Strategy, including:

  • Adjusting the priority for development of a Master Plan for the Table Top Community Centre.
  • Adding a commitment to review the Strategy in five years.
  • Recognising the impact of Council’s recent budget decisions to ensure financial sustainability while continuing investment in essential services and infrastructure.

The Strategy will be implemented through a series of prioritised actions, sequenced to respond first to areas of greatest need.

Mayor Mack said the Strategy will be central to shaping Albury’s future.

“This plan complements our Community Strategic Plan, Towards Albury 2050, and gives us the tools to keep delivering the facilities, services and opportunities our community expects, while planning responsibly for generations to come,” he said.
